How To Turn Things Around (Part 2)
Many people feel out of control of their life and the direction it is going. There can be so many demands in everyday life that there is no time to take control and set your life in the direction you want and need it to go.
Having a Plan and Setting your Direction
Ask yourself this: “If it was 3 years from now and you were looking back at the last three years of your life, what has to have happened (realistically) for you to feel great about the progress you have made?”
Think about the way this is worded. This does not mean that you have achieved all of your goals. What this does mean is that you have made progress and are headed in the right direction.
You need to start somewhere. The best place to start is to figure out what it is you are trying to accomplish. Next, determine what steps are needed to get there. And then set a plan in place for when and how you will do the things that are necessary. Maybe it will take a week. Or maybe it will take many years. Whatever it is, you can feel good that you have a plan and are headed in the right direction.
Also remember, it is ok to change your goals and your plan if something unexpected gets in the way or you change your mind about what you really want. This will be a work in progress for the rest of your life. Just when you get close to accomplishing the goals you set out, you can find others to take their place so you are always growing and feeling great about your life.
Each year I look back at the life I have had and the progress I have made. As long as things are going in the right direction and I am making progress, then it is a good thing.
